Cycle on Social Entrepreneurship
Social entrepreneurship and social innovation are at the heart of Dialogue Café Association mission. The recommendations received during the sessions organised in 2015 on women´s empowerment through creative industries and creative hubs and entrepreneurship for social change, and in 2016 on incubation models for social and creative entrepreneurship: sharing knowledge and testimonials, gave us the opportunity to identify follow-up activities on social entrepreneurship.
In this framework a cycle of sessions on social entrepreneurship will be launched in 2017 with the aim of promoting global exchanges and networking opportunities as well as strengthening youth capacities and skills on social entrepreneurship. The cycle will address, once per month, a topic and challenge previously identified by the community and partners of Dialogue Café Network.
Session´s Overview
From ideas to implementation, social innovation initiatives are explicitly designed to meet a recognised social need, drive societal change by providing effective (than existing) solutions and empower beneficiaries by creating new roles, developing new communities, strengthening competences and focusing on their knowledge and capacities.
The application of social innovation strategies in the area of ageing is an interesting approach to tackle the challenges and opportunities of this 21st century main societal issue.
The objective of this session organised by Dialogue Café is in one hand, disseminate social innovation initiatives aimed at empowering elderly implemented in several and different countries; in other hand, provide to social entrepreneurs thinking on working in this field, inspiration and knowledge about good practices.
With this purpose, members of social innovation organisations working in the field of active-ageing and social entrepreneurs will be invited to join us and participate in this discussion.

Dialogue Café is come back with interesting and useful sessions!
In the framework of our cycle Global Exchange of Crafts Makers, Dialogue Cafés based in Évora, Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro will organise a session on “Business Development and internationalisation” with the aim of providing makers with key information on how to strengthen their business and promote its development at the international level, as well as sharing information on business sustainability and shared business strategies.
During the session experts, makers and organisations from Portugal and Brasil will be invited to present their knowledge, resources and share their experiences.

Os países de língua portuguesa não têm uma tradição de partilha de temáticas jornalísticas e em muitos casos são raramente abordados nos órgãos de comunicação social dos outros países. Contribuir para compreender as dinâmicas do jornalismo em cada um dos países de forma a poder contribuir para uma maior cooperação ou colaboração entre eles é um objetivo importante para o contexto da língua portuguesa. No seguimento do ciclo sobre jornalismo já iniciado e trabalho em várias sessões do Dialogue Café, propomos afunilar esta discussão a um público mais específico e que representa o futuro, propomos por isso o trabalho com estudantes de jornalismo de Cabo Verde, Brasil e Portugal.
Os objetivos desta primeira sessão são a) pôr o âmbito académico do jornalismo de Cabo Verde, Brasil e Portugal a discutir questões base do jornalismo, fazendo a contextualização do que passa no sector em cada um dos países; b) contribuir para o networking de jornalismo dos três países com vista a possíveis colaborações e cooperação.

Social entrepreneurship initiatives have been growing fast in the latest years moved by the desire of changing the world, gathering knowledge and resources, making changes happen. New entrepreneurs are born every day motivated for bringing social change to their communities. However, as discussed during the first session of this cycle on social entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurs need to have some competences and resources, among them basic knowledge on business and organisation models.
During the session experts based in Portugal and Cape Verde will address entrepreneurs doubts and questions regarding “what´s a business model, business activity versus social activity, social entreprises models existing in different countries. The objective is to clarify concepts and analyse together with social entrepreneurs the best business model they can use to launch their projects by taking into advantages and disadvantages.
With this purpose a session on business models for social entrepreneurs will take place on 30 May from 15h to 17h London time. Dialogue Cafés participating are DC Lisbon (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian), DC Évora (EvoraTech Fab Lab da ADRAL) and DC Cidade de Praia (Instituto Pedro Pires para a Liderança). The session will take place in Portuguese.

This session is organised as pilot session in the framework of the Dialogue Café Subotica project. It aims at sharing knowledge on how to develop and to create opportunities for promoting youth participation and active role in managing conflict situations by strengthening their social skills, capacity of dialogue, mediation, negotiation and cooperation. In this framework, good practices and tools implemented in this field by international organisations, NGOs, local and national authorities, will be presented during the session in order to promote mutual learning and good practices exchange.

In this framework, good practices and tools implemented in this field by international organisations, NGOs, local and national authorities, will be presented during the session in order to promote mutual learning and good practices exchange.
The session will take place on 17 May 2017 from 15h to 17h London time and will be organised in the framework of the launching process of Dialogue Café Subotica. The third Dialogue Café to be opened in Serbia thanks to the partnership developed with United Nations Associations Serbia – UNA Serbia and the cooperation of local partners.
At the session the participating groups of young members from Novi Pazar and Belgrade that have participated in the activities of the Dialogue Cafes in the two cities. They will with the youth of Subotica share their experiences participating in the DC activities, as well as have an intercultural meeting from the different cities and regions in Serbia.

According to the UNHCR, the number of forcibly displaced people worldwide reached 59.5 million at the end of 2014, the highest level since World War II with a 40% increase taking place since 2011. More than a million forcibly displaced people, migrants and refugees, crossed into Europe in 2015, sparking a crisis as countries struggled to cope with the influx, and creating division in the EU over how best to deal with resettling people. Ensuring their integration and full participation in the economic, social, and political life of the society in which they live is a right that needs to be ensured if we wish to guarantee their social inclusion and the observance of their human rights.
In several contexts, arts and culture, more specifically traditional artisanship have been used as vehicle for displaced people social inclusion as making things by hand using centuries-old techniques and traditional knowhow might firstly, promote their empowerment and integration through employment opportunities and self-confidence increase; secondly, contribute to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage in need of safeguarding because of forced migrations and conflicts.
In the framework of the Global Exchange of Crafts Makers, Dialogue Café Association is organising this session with the aim of sharing knowledge and promoting mutual learning on how artisanship can be used to promote displaced people social inclusion and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. With this purpose concrete initiatives being implemented will share their experiences and serve as inspiration for other organisations working in those fields.
The main goal of the cycle Global Exchange of Crafts Makers is to promote exchanges and dialogue between different crafts makers around the world with the aim, in one hand, of identifying the challenges and opportunities of this promising creative sector in future economies, in the other hand, promoting a dialogue and transmission of know-how between traditional and innovative artisans, between senior and young generations.
The session will take place next 25 May from 15h to 17h London time.
