Background
The aim of the project Global Exchange of Crafts Makers is to promote exchanges and dialogue between different crafts makers around the world with the aim, in one hand, of identifying the challenges and opportunities of this promising creative sector in future economies, in the other hand, promoting a dialogue and transmission of know-how between traditional and innovative artisans, between senior and young generations.
Figures compiled last year by the Crafts Council showed there were 11,620 craft businesses in the UK, with 43,000 employees. However this phenomenon is taking place all around the world. In today´s increasingly virtual world, making things by hand using centuries-old techniques, traditional crafts provided with a new design approach are fulfilling the market of online business and also starts-ups.

Objective
The main objective of the VI session focused on “Face to face: senior artisans vs young makers. Debating how to innovate the crafts sector”, is to promote exchange and dialogue between senior and young artisans with the aim of identifying the challenges and opportunities the sector confronts in each participating country, as well as analyzing how the transmission of traditional knowledge and skills between generations of crafters can be ensured in our modern day world in order to prevent the sector from an endangered situation and extinction risk.
The session will take place on 27 April from 15h to 17h London time and will connect DC´s based in Lisbon, Novi Pazar and Rio de Janeiro.

Overview
Social entrepreneurship and social innovation are at the heart of the Dialogue Café Association mission. The recommendations received during the sessions organised in 2015 on women´s empowerment through creative industries and on creative hubs and entrepreneurship as vehicle for social change, and in 2016 on incubation models for social and creative entrepreneurship: sharing knowledge and testimonials, gave us the opportunity to identify the need of organising follow-up activities focused social entrepreneurship. Activities including exchanges, networking opportunities, trainings, conferences and seminars.
In this framework and with the aim of promoting global exchanges and networking opportunities, as well as strengthening youth capacities and skills on social entrepreneurship, a cycle on social entrepreneurship will be implemented in 2017. The cycle will address challenges and issues previously identified by the participants and partners of Dialogue Café Network.
With this project we aim at stregthening youth entrepreneurs capacities, developing networking opportunities, promoting global exchanges, identifying good practices, addressing the needs of social entrepreneurs and developing a global community on social entrepreneurship around Dialogue Cafe Network.
