Session on Integration of Minorities and Social Cohesion
The Dialogue Café Novi Pazar was funded as result of the UN project “Improving Human Security for Vulnerable Communities in southwest Serbia”. A programme of sessions have been led by Dialogue Cafe Novi Pazar since its official opening on different issues of interest such as : interethnic and interreligious trust, minority rights, non-discrimination and gender equality, the integration of minorities and community cohesion, innovative textile production and green societies, with the aim of promoting exchange of good practices with other EU countries.
In this framework, DC Novi Pazar will also lead the organisation of a session on: “Youth participation in decision making processes – towards more accepting, open societies” (22 June from 14h00 to 15h30 London time).Â
Participation is a fundamental right. It is one of the guiding principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that has been reiterated in many other Conventions and Declarations. Through active participation, young people are empowered to play a vital role in their own development as well as in that of their communities. The significance of participation was emphasized in the World Programme of Action for Youth, adopted by the General Assembly in 1995.

Nowadays because of globalisation and migrations youth are often confronted with the challenge of managing diversity and dealing with differences. Avoiding conflict and refraining from entering into the cycle of violent behaviour require skills that have to be taught within a broad-based, multidimensional approach to conflict transformation, youth and educational work.
Exchange session with the participation of Academia Ubuntu
This project aims at contributing to develop and to create opportunities for developing social skills, capacity of dialogue, negotiation and cooperation, in particular among teenagers and youth. Following international best practices in this field, the 4 sessions for “youth transforming conflict” that are proposed will be in line namely with the kit produced by the Council of Europe to address this topic.
The sessions will focus on the following topics/activities:
1-Youth work for conflict transformation – understanding a conflict and conflict mapping (23 June)
2- Co-operation solutions (30 June)
3 – Mediation/third party interventions and negotiation (07 June)
4- Conflict themes (14 July)

Can countries in transition and development fully go green?, May 26, Évora, Lisbon, Novi Pazar, Rio de Janeiro
The Dialogue Café Novi Pazar was funded as result of the UN project “Improving Human Security for Vulnerable Communities in southwest Serbia”. A programme of sessions have been led by Dialogue Cafe Novi Pazar since its official opening on different issues of interest such as : interethnic and interreligious trust, minority rights, non-discrimination and gender equality and the integration of minorities and community cohesion, with the aim of promoting exchange of good practices with other EU countries.
DC Novi Pazar will also lead the organisation of a session on: “Can countries in transition/development really go fully green and if yes, how best?”(May, 26 from 14h00 to 15h30 London time).Â
You might think why? why we need to discuss about green societies? Why we need to think green? Well…
We depend on nature. As our societies, economies and cultures have developed, humankind has influenced the environment greatly. As a matter of fact, many nations have built strong industries that helped their economic and social development significantly making them among the most developed nations of the world today. However, our planet suffered in the process. We have created enough problems including greenhouse effects, anthropogenic transformation of ecosystems, natural disasters etc.
Meanwhile, developed nations are today able to go green and prevent the further deterioration of the environment around us. However, is that the case with the developing world? While industrialized nations have the conformity of going green in their already developed economies, is this the case of developing countries and countries in transition? Is it possible to develop a country’s economy as well with green economies as well as it is with traditional sources?
What are the issues faced today by transition/developing countries in the matter of going green? What are the best practices in achieving greater usage of green energy, raising awareness in recycling process and providing more green jobs? How can South-South Cooperation influence this goal positively?
Participants representing governments, civil society and private companies will join us to discuss and exchange views on this issue.

April was an special month for Dialogue Cafe Network.
Session on Integration of Minorities, 27 April 2’15
April was an important month for Dialogue Cafe Network because DC Novi Pazar (Serbia) and DC Évora (Portugal) joined us and strengthened our global dimension.
Dialogue Cafe has now more than 2000 friends on facebook, a very important achievement for our network. We are very grateful for this support.
The cycle of sessions on changing journalism, changing societies was lauched and we talked about journalism and censorship nowadays (24 April), an important issue if we take into account the findings of the last world press freedom index published by Reporters Without Borders.
Dialogue Cafe also shared initiatives on how to better integrate minorities, in particular the roma community and improve community cohesion (27 April), a common challenge our societies face around the world.
Moreover, in partnersip with the Association Sorrir (Portugal) we smiled and talked about happiness to celebrate the International Day of Smile (28 April). A follow-up training will be developed during the second semester in order to organise a DC Smile Dance.

Challenges journalists face are somehow the same as ever, but they have also changed. Censorship is still a very important issue, but its forms changed. And sometimes they are not clear. That’s why is important to talk about it. In the 21st century censorship exists in various forms. What are they, and what consequences do they bring to journalism and societies in general? These are all important questions that need to be discussed.
With this purpose, and in the framework of the cycle of sessions “Changing societies, changing journalism: a global discussion on the future of journalism” led by the University Institute of Lisbon ISCTE – IUL (Portugal) and Dialogue CafĂ© Lisbon, a first global session on  “Censorship in a global and changing world: religion, politics and economics” will be held next Friday 24 April from 14h00 to 15h30 (London time).  Â
Special speakers will include notably: in DC Lisbon (Calouste Gulbekian Foundation), Ana Catarina Santos, Journalist, TSF and Paulo Pena, Journalist, PĂşblico; in DC Rio de Janeiro (UCAM University), MaurĂcio Santoro, former adviser on human rights at Amnesty International; and directly from DC Novi Pazar (Centar Duga), Nikola Kocovic, Journalist, Radio 100 and Hana Oklapi Salihagic, Journalist at the City of Novi Pazar information office, among DC team members and many others.
There will also be participants in DC Florence (RFK Center) and in DC Évora (Évora Tech) taking part in this global conversation.

The third World Happiness Report will be released on April 23rd, 2015. In anticipation of the release, the Dialogue Cafe Lisbon is proposing a unique session combining reflection and some practical activities that will increase your feeling of happiness!
One of our biggest advances in life has been in figuring out what causes happiness — and what doesn’t. For example, everyone wants to be happy. By increasing your level of happiness within yourself, you can affect your relationships in a more positive way.
Dialogue and Be Happy!
But have you ever noticed how some people have few material possessions, yet seem very happy, while others have an abundance of material wealth, yet seem very unhappy? How can some people remain strong through many crises, while others fall apart over nothing? If money and possessions don’t determine happiness, what does?
With this purpose, the Dialogue Cafe of Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro will organise a session on Tuesday 28 April from 14h00 to 15h00 (London time) aimed at reflecting upon this topical issue and…gaining some practical insights about what to do live…happier life!!!
As you will see at the end…it might happen that all DCs will join on a GLOBAL SMILE DANCE organised by Asociação Sorrir.Â
