Our cycle on “Creative Hubs and Entrepreneurship for Social Change“ started today with a great introductory session about creative hubs and social entrepreneurship.

Our wonderful participants, representing different types of organisations such as ADDICT, Fermenta NGO, Portuguese Entrepreneurs, NVO Front and SEDA (Regional Development Agency of SandĆŸak) shared their views and experiences about the development of creative and social entrepreneurship in Portugal and Serbia. Different scenarios but same needs: inspiration, competences, sustainability, fundraising and networking opportunities. Topics that will be raised in the following sessions of this cycle.
For this purpose, the second session of this cycle will be focused on the competences and abilities the entrepreneurs need to ensure in order to provide a successful implementation of their ideas. For sure weÂŽll discuss a lot about the challenges and the difficulties entrepreneurs and hub managers face everyday but also weÂŽll share innovative ideas, creative solutions, a lot of hope and great inspiration for them.
The participants of this session will include entrepreneurs as Susana Antonio from Fermenta NGO and Ana Margardida Ferreira from IADE Creative University in Lisbon. Representatives from Rio Criativo will join us in DC Rio de Janeiro and other participants in DC Novi Pazar.

âThe new development paradigm, where the main factors of economic and social growth are knowledge, creativity, originality and skills, has not only changed the economic structure, but also the concepts of growth and development. The âknowledge-based economyâ finds its economic support in creativity and talent, and emphasises cultural industries as a conceptual framework within which growth generators exist.â[1]

In 2008 the cultural and creative sectors contributed an estimated 4.5 % to EU GDP, and employed some 3.8% of Europe’s workforce[1]. Beyond this direct contribution to jobs and growth, these sectors trigger spill-overs in other areas such as tourism, content for ICT and provide benefits for education, social inclusion and social innovation. They are therefore particularly important as Europe and other regions in the world seek to emerge from the current economic crisis. Â With this regard, social entrepreneurship represents an opportunity to attempt to further broad social, cultural and environmental goals by using innovative solutions and measuring performance in positive return to society.
At the same time, there is an important development of creative hubs and business in Europe and worldwide. They are physical or virtual âplaceâ based on collective or co-operative models and on creative, technological or cultural work aiming at supporting the development of companies and projects but also connecting people in networks and creative communities.
The Dialogue CafĂ© Association aims at supporting social entrepreneurship in creative sectors by offering its network to address the challenges faced by creative and social entrepreneurs, providing networking and partnerships opportunities, promoting research and reflection, sharing good practices and case studies as well as supporting the development of social entrepreneurâs competences.
With this purpose, the Dialogue Café Association organise a programme of sessions focused on:
1. Exchanging thoughts on Creative Hubs and Entrepreneurship, vehicle of social change and development (20 October);
2. Becoming Entrepreneur and hub Manager: creative smoothie of competences (27 October);
3. Partnership and Fundraising opportunities for social and creative entrepreneurs (10 November);
4. Good practices and initiatives of social entrepreneurship in creative sectors (11 November);
If you are interested in social entrepreneurship and creativity, sign up, join us and share your experience.Â

The Dialogue CafĂ© Novi Pazar was funded as result of the UN project âImproving Human Security for Vulnerable Communities in southwest Serbiaâ.
In this framework, DC Novi Pazar will lead a session on the topic âImpact of digital technologies on low tech industries – the future of textiles productionâ (05 June 2015, 14h00 â 15h30 London time).
The textile industry in Serbia holds a special significance, and Novi Pazar is a city with a long tradition and great potential in manufacturing textiles. Novi Pazar has a particularly strong clothes industry, more specifically making high quality jeans. You can find more information on the website of the Association of Novi Pazar textile manufacturers.
Because of the various processes involved in making jeans, this industry is considered one of the “dirtiest” in textile manufacturing. That’s why the use of eco-friendly technologies is an important issue.
On the other hand, new digital technologies enable digital design and printing via computers and special printers, without having to worry about quantity. It opens the question of how can textile manufacturers preserve tradition and product quality in a time of new challenges. What’s the future of textile manufacturing?”
Participants representing governments, civil society and private companies will join us to discuss and exchange views on this issue.
Moderator: Vanja Popovic, United Nations Association of Serbia, DC Novi Pazar
–Â DC Lisbon:
- Helena Barroco, President a.i. Dialogue Café Association
- Participants from the fashion and textile field will join us during the discussion. Among them, MODATEX, IADE.
– DC Novi Pazar:
- Semih Durovic, Regional Project Manager, USAID Sustainable Local Development Project
- Representative of Association of Textile Producers ASSTEX, Novi Pazar
- Meho CamoviÄ, Director, School of Textile Design
Other participants from DC Florence will join us.
