In today’s complex and unpredicted world, humanity is faced with a lot of problems that affect ordinary human lives on their daily level. Those threats are visible and very real, but still, in some cases we are missing a real action for solving those issues. Refugee crisis that is still ongoing on European soil is one of those complex and unpredicted events. Nobody could have predicted that such instability in the Middle East would happen. And even more, nobody could have predict that it will cause a massive migration of people, looking for another safe heaven. During this crisis, a different actors with a different roles, acted in accordance with primarily their interests.

Those interests mainly were not in accordance with an interest of those people – refugees, that are mostly affected by all those happenings. Europe, that become a main point for immigration, couldn’t stand united in solving this crisis. National governments responded, but those responses were first of all in their own interest. For some countries, defending that interest included building a fence on their borders so that influx of refugees would be less. In all of this, that can be in few words called, conflict of interests, we need to think about those refugees first and foremost!

Their rights were violated at their own home countries, and now they are facing new violations in the countries that should have welcomed them. On the other side, there is a possibility for individuals from MENA region to infiltrate within ordinary people and in that way spread some kind of extremist ideology that is present in this region within Europe.

Constructive answers are needed and they need to include both the security of Europeans and the security and well being of refugees coming from the countries that are affected by war.

Global Conversation on World Heritage and Culture of Peace 0 Reply

World Heritage and Culture of Peace represent universal values on which UNESCO has a special focus.

Importance of the preservation of common heritage of human kind is expressed in armed conflicts and in areas threatened by extremists. For more information on world heritage in danger visit the link.

Spreading the Culture of Peace is an important factor in preservation of cultural sites which are a symbol of the identity of one nation and also a part of the common heritage of whole human kind. Special area of activity of UNESCO’s Culture of Peace programme is Heritage and contemporary creativity as tools for building peace through dialogue.

Importance of learning about World Heritage Sites for better understanding and affirmation of different aspects of peace is outlined in a chapter of the manual World Heritage in Young Hands.

Conversation on this topic is a good opportunity for exchange of experiences of the countries from which we have participants in the Dialogue Café network. You can see UNESCO World Heritage List in Portugal, Serbia, and Brazil.

In this framework a Global Conversation will be organised by Dialogue Café Novi Pazar on Tuesday 24 November from 14h00 to 15h30 (London time).

Fundraising and partnerships: social entrepreneurship in creative sectors. 0 Reply

Following the two amazing first sessions of the Cycle on “Creative Hubs and entrepreneurship as vehicle for social change”, the first one introducing the existing potential link between creative and social entrepreneurship, and the second one analysing hub managers and entrepreneurs competences and challenges; we are organising a third session which will take place next Tuesday 10 November from 15h00 to 16h30 (London time), on fundraising and partnerships.

This session will allow us to discuss about opportunities and innovative methods to fundraise our projects on social entrepreneurship. In this framework, can be cooperation, barter, exchanges of services, partnerships, a source for fundraising our ideas? and if yes, how best?

The new whistleblowers: what is the role of journalists in the digital age? 0 Reply

In the framework of the cycle “Changing societies, changing journalism: a global discussion on the future of journalism” led by the University Institute of Lisbon ISCTE – IUL (Portugal) and Dialogue Café Lisbon, a third global session on  “The new whistleblowers: what is the role of journalists in the digital age?” will be held in 26 November 2015 from 14h00 to 15h30 London time.

2nd Session DC – Changing Societies, Changing Journalism

Journalism is facing big challenges. Technology, internet, social changes, and other factors are bringing many questions to what and how is going to be the future of journalism. Is journalism still important? What’s the role of journalism in a networked society? Are people still interested in what journalists have to tell them? Do they trust journalism as a good source of information? Are there new paths for journalism? Is journalism still considered the 4^th power?

For example, cases like Wikileaks, the Snowden case, and even more recent LuxLeaks, brought to discussion whistleblowing and its new ways. Technology, transparency and globalization are key words in this new framework.

Discussing journalists role in this framework is of great importance, because the relation between whistleblowers and journalists is changing.

The session will be moderated by Gustavo Cardoso, Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology, University Institute of Lisbon (CIES-IUL).

Good practices and initiatives of social entrepreneurship on creative sectors 0 Reply

After two amazing sessions, the first one introducing the existing potential link between creative and social entrepreneurship, the second one analysing hub managers and entrepreneurs competences and challenges; a third session which will take place next Tuesday 10 November, will focus on fundraising and partnerships. With the aim to conclude the cycle by sharing inspiring iniciatives we will organise a fourth session smart practices on social entrepreneurship on creative sectors.

As we discussed last WTuesday 27 October, social entrepreneurs are dream makers who share knowledge with the community in order to build a better future together. It´s a persistent non-conformist who search through creativity and innovation succesful solutions for social change.

During the fourth session of our cycle on “Creative Hubs and Social Entrepreneurship as vehicles for Social Change“, we would like to talk about smart models that can inspire other people in the path to achieve their dream. With this purpose we will welcome amazing people next Wednesday 11 November from 15h00 to 16h30 (London time) in DC Lisbon (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian), DC Novi Pazar and DC Rio de Janeiro (UCAM University).

In the round-table we will firstly introduce the different organisation models we can find in the social and creative entrepreneurship landscape. Hence, our invitees will present their initiatives in detail and share with us the challenges they face and how they support successful projects.
